We’re really glad you use modo, and want to assure you we respect the privacy of your personal information. By creating an account with modo, some information needs be collected and recorded to maintain your account and enable its activity. Described below is how we collect, use and handle this when you use our websites, software and services ("Services").

What & Why

We collect and use the following information to provide, improve, and protect our Services, requested by and contracted to you:

  • Account information: If you provided it to us, we collect and associate with your account information like your name, email address, phone number, payment info and physical address. Unlike others, we don’t insist on that info, but can use it to improve your modo experience if you choose to provide it.
  • Access: Connectors") with modo to make it simple for you to access files.> For some Connector types we securely store the access details you have provided such as usernames or passwords. These are needed by modo servers to access the content you have permitted us to add to your modo account. Such information is only used for this purpose and no other. modo staff do not access or process this information; it is used by our automated software only.
  • Services: When you use our Services, we process and transmit your files (including stuff like your photos, structured data, documents and emails) and information related to them (for example location tags in photos). When we do this modo staff don’t see your documents. Our systems store information that they have created on those files such as picture thumbnails and searchable text versions. This is used to provide the amazing visual and searchable database of your stuff in modo. Again, modo staff do not access or process this information, it is handled automatically by computers, indeed much of it is only in machine-readable form.
  • Usage: Depending on their settings, your devices may transmit information to the Services. Additionally, we collect information from and about the devices and/or networks you use to access the Services. This includes things like IP addresses, the type of browser and device you use, the web page you visited before coming to our sites, and identifiers associated with your devices. This can help us provide you with features in the Services and also with security.
  • Device information: We also collect information from and about the devices you use to access the Services. This includes things like IP addresses, the type of browser and device you use, the web page you visited before coming to our sites, and identifiers associated with your devices. Your devices (depending on their settings) may also transmit location information to the Services.
  • Cookies: Cookies can help us with things like remembering your language choice on our website; or understanding how you are interacting with our Services. So that we can provide, improve, protect and promote our Services, we make use of Cookies. You can set your browser to not accept cookies, but this may limit your ability to use the Services.   • Marketing: We give users the option to use some of our Services free of charge. These free Services are made possible by the fact that some users upgrade to one of our paid Services. If you register for our free Services, we will, from time to time, send you information about upgrades when permissible. Users who receive these marketing materials can opt out at any time. If you do not want to receive marketing materials from us, simply click the ‘unsubscribe’ link in any email, or update your preferences in the Notifications section of your personal account.
  • Basis for processing your data: We collect and use the personal data described above in order to provide you with the Services in a reliable and secure manner. We also collect and use personal data for our legitimate business needs.

With whom

Purely in order to provide you with the Service, we may need to share carefully controlled information as discussed below. We won't sell it to advertisers or other third parties.

  • Others working for modo: modo uses selected trusted third parties to help us provide, improve, protect and promote our Services. These third parties will access your information only to perform tasks on our behalf and in compliance with this Privacy Policy and our security procedures. This would include providers of customer support and IT services.
  • modo partners: If modo was promoted to you through your association or membership of another organisation we may share anonymous statistical information with that partner. In addition, the partner organisation may be able to view certain information such as the name, email address and IP address that were associated with your account. This may be needed, for example, for verification and security purposes and that organisation would be required to adhere to the same level of Data Protections Standards as this Privacy Policy. They would of course have absolutely no access to your account or other Personal Data.
  • Law & Order: We may disclose your information to third parties if we determine that such disclosure is reasonably necessary to (a) comply with the law; (b) prevent fraud or abuse of modo or our users; (c) protect modo's property rights; or (d) protect you or other modo users.


  • Security: We dedicate resource to keeping your information secure and testing for vulnerabilities. We take steps to prevent the disclosure or destruction of data, including periodic reviews of the storage, processing and collection of data. We also employ security measures to protect our information systems. And we continue to work on features to keep your information safe in addition to things like encryption, controls, and alerts when new devices are linked to your account.
  • User Controls: You can access, amend and delete your personal information by logging into your modo account and going to your account settings page. You can also limit the way we collect and use your data on the My Account page of your modo account, for example to add, remove or suspend “Connectors”.
  • Retention: For as long as we need it to provide you the Services, the information we store will be retained by us. If you delete your account, we'll also delete this information. However: because of the way information technology works, there may be a delay in removing this information completely from our servers and backup storage; and we may retain this information if necessary to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes or enforce our agreements as per our contract with you.


  • Globally: In order to provide you with the Services, we may store, process and transmit information in the United States, the EU, The European Economic Area (EEA) and locations around the world - including locations outside your country. We will make sure that it is protected in the same way as if it was being used under this Privacy Policy. Information may also be stored locally on the devices you use to access the Services.

Your information may be transferred as part of any company reorganisation, merger, acquisition or sale of our assets.

We may revise this Privacy Policy from time to time, and will post the most current version on our website. Please ensure you check regularly.

Your Right to Control and Access Your Information

You have control over your personal information and how it is collected, used, and shared. For example, you have a right to:

  • Erase or delete all or some of your Connectors in your modo account.
  • Change or correct personal data. You can manage your account and the content contained in it, as well as edit some of your personal data, through your account settings page.
  • Access and take your data. You can ask us for a copy of personal data.
